Communication

There is a golden thread which runs through many businesses and links all their activities together. This can be found in many areas such as mission statements, values, core objectives etc. Essentially, it is what the business is about and captures it in a manner that is easily understood and communicated. However, once identified, it should link all business activities together, hence the thread analogy.

To better understand this, during the business planning process, a business would look at where it wished to be in three years and how it wished to be perceived by major influencers in the market place. With this objective in mind it would set a number of milestones to achieve on the way to the ultimate goal. In parallel with direct business development activities, a communication plan for web, print and other media should be developed which is consistent in the message the business wished to put out. Every opportunity would be taken to publicize businesses successes which endorse this key message and act as validation of it.

The power of the media in assisting business growth should not be underestimated. Below we have highlighted several examples of businesses successfully adopting a co-ordinated communication strategy.
